Microsoft Exchange Server is a messaging platform, which also includes features for email calendaring. Many businesses use email as a means of communication between employees, colleagues and manufacturers they may work with.

Microsoft Exchange provides businesses not only with email, but shared calendars, contacts and certain files at any time. Exchange is reasonably priced and can boost a business's efficiency.

As people use Microsoft Exchange for their email client, there are many other features they may not be aware of. Email is secure and readily accessible from a remote location like a PDA, Blackberry, or can be accessed right on the web.

Calendars can be created and managed, and can be a great way to schedule meetings or to-do lists for employees. Contact information of anyone chosen to be in that system is available 24/7, and customers too can be added to the server.

Exchange messaging works well for businesses because it can be used accessed almost anywhere that has an Internet connection. People are able to respond to emails with haste and can also check their voicemail and faxes. "Unified Messaging" allows users to receive voicemail and email in their inboxes, giving them the ability to check their messages on the go via smart-phone or other wireless devices.

In the 2007 version of Microsoft exchange, new levels of operational efficiency were introduced, allowing businesses to get more out of their hardware and software, and network investments were able to run on a 64-bit system (for increased scalability).

Administrator productivity was improved, making it easier for administrators to find and solve problems and questions. Microsoft Exchange also released better protective technologies that were built right into the software. These technologies helped businesses stay safe. Messages being sent and received are kept confidential thanks to internal and Internet based encryption features.

Data, both local and clustered have their own replication abilities to keep the system available and reducing the amount of tape backup. Anti-spam defenses are made with integrated filtering and have multi-engine scanning capabilities that help fight against spam and phishing of email.

Recently, Microsoft has released a new and improved version of Exchange for 2010. With this version, new and higher levels of reliability and performance have been introduced making it very simple to manage your business, protect your communications and meeting higher demands for better mobile flexibility.

These new innovations have also been lowered about 50-80% in cost. Exchange 2010 provides more options for storage and you can customize the Exchange infrastructure to better fit your business. Mailbox sizes have increased and users are able to fulfill their jobs more efficiently due to not having to waste time erasing messages and monitoring their inbox to save space.

Advances with this new version will also allow you to save time, energy and money on IT operational costs. There is a new role-based security model and self-service functions that will help remove the burden on your technical support staff.

The new web-based control panel allows businesses to delegate specific tasks to users without having to give them full rights and keeps help desk call volumes to a minimum.
